About Us

Maya is an audition-based contemporary fusion dance group that brings together dancers of different cultural and artistic dance backgrounds. Our company incorporates primarily contemporary, jazz, modern, and hip-hop styles into our choreography, and is entirely student-run. Our agenda features five main performances: the winter conceptual show, an energetic opening set for UChicago’s annual MODA fashion show, a smaller and more explorative spring conceptual show, a filmed video project and a set performed alongside other on-campus dance groups for UChicago Dance Council’s annual Where Fun Comes to Dance competition, where we've successfully defended the title for three years running.
