Winter/Spring 2021

UChicago Maya is hosting auditions for its Winter/Spring 2021 cast!
All auditions will take place virtually and synchronously over Zoom.

Our auditions will take place on Sunday, January 17, and Monday, January 18th from 7 to 9 PM CST. Both of these sessions will take place over Zoom, but you will only be required to attend one.

During the audition, you will learn two combinations. In order to be considered for our Winter/Spring 2021 cast, after the audition, you will have an hour to submit two recordings of yourself (i.e. one video for each combo you will have been taught during the audition).

At this time, we will only be considering applications from those who plan to be on campus in Spring of 2021.

Get to know us before auditions at our Winter Workshops!

This is part of a series of open workshops taught via Zoom, available to all. Each workshop is an hour-long and includes a quick warm-up, followed by a short combination, and plenty of time to dance at the end. These workshops features intermediate-level contemporary/fusion choreography.

FAQ

Q: Is Maya girls only?
A: Absolutely not! Everyone is welcome to audition.

Q: What style are you?
A: Maya reflects and embraces the styles of its choreographers and their backgrounds. Currently, we predominantly combine styles such as contemporary, jazz, lyrical, ballet, and hip hop, but we also have choreographers who draw inspiration from classical ethnic styles.

Q: What kind of dancers are you looking for?
A: Our dancers come from diverse training backgrounds, so some experience is recommended. We are looking for those who can learn and retain choreography quickly, and then expressively perform it. We consider dancers on a holistic basis and are by no means looking for perfection!

Q: What do auditions consist of?
A: During the two-hour session, we will warm-up, learn two routines all together, and then perform them in smaller groups of 4-5 dancers so we can see each auditionee more clearly.
